Belarus' upper house of parliament comments on escalation of Middle East conflict
udf.byThe Presidium of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus has issued a statement in connection with the recent flare-up in the Middle East, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of parliament. “The Presidium of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus expresses deep concern about the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and the threats it poses to international peace and security,” the statement reads. “We are shocked by reports of numerous civilian casualties, especially women and children, and widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure.” “We call for an immediate ceasefire and urge to refrain from steps and decisions that provoke a severe humanitarian catastrophe in the region,” the statement emphasizes. “We also call on international organizations, parliamentary structures and parliamentarians to consolidate efforts to encourage the parties to the conflict to comply with international humanitarian law and to go back to peaceful means to resolve the conflict,” the statement reads..
